Project SEARCH participants learn relevant, marketable skills while immersed in the day-to day-business of St. Mary’s Hospital.
Project SEARCH is a 10 month program for young adults that takes place entirely at the workplace. It will provide people living with disabilities with tuition-free job training and educational and developmental opportunities at Saint Mary’s. The total workplace immersion will facilitate a combination of classroom instruction, career exploration and hands-on training through work-site rotations.
Developed in 1996 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Project SEARCH has grown from a single program to over 300 programs throughout the U.S. and around the world.
On June 29, Saint Mary’s hosted a launch at the hospital for the 2017-18 school term. Interns Cassandra Clsunch, Lakin Grinder, Richard Hausmann, Bethany Johnson, Kord Lewis, Alexis Pope and Kaleigh Reddell were welcomed by leaders of sponsoring organizations as well as the Honorable Randy Horton, mayor of Russellville. The interns begin their assignments August 14.
From August-May, Saint Mary’s Regional Health System in Russellville will provide internship positions for these young adults. The collaboration between Friendship Community Care, Arkansas Rehabilitation Services and Saint Mary’s will allow program participants to develop skills for competitive employment, thus providing a more successful transition into adult life.
Program SEARCH is an internationally trademarked and copyrighted program assuring model delity and best practices by adherence to critical core model components taught in an integrated business environment.
